A New Giving Program from Freedom First


We’re pleased to share a new request process that will make it easier for your organization to apply to receive funds. Funding applications will be reviewed on a continual basis meaning there is no annual deadline for requests. You can apply at any time.

With this new process, we aim to make it easier and less time consuming for your organization to apply.

Mill Mountain Theatre
To expand its Young Audience Series to include sensory-friendly performances to accommodate needs of children and teenagers with a wide variety of behavioral challenges, including autism spectrum disorders (ASD).

Southwest Virginia Ballet
Towards the formation of its newly organized orchestra that will appear exclusively with Southwest Virginia Ballet and will be comprised of both professional and student musicians from our region

Lighthouse Beloved Community CLT
To waive the monthly ground lease fee for residences within its community land trust and contributions for its repair reserve fund.

YMCA of Pulaski County
To offset tuition in a new preschool classroom, funds will go toward scholarships for families unable to pay full tuition.

Brain Injury Solutions (Roanoke Valley)
The mission of Brain Injury Solutions is to help children and adults living with brain injury improve the quality of their lives and reintegrate into family and community.

Casa Latina (Roanoke Valley)
Casa Latina is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency that addresses the needs of the local Spanish-speaking community in the Roanoke Valley of Virginia. We provide resources and programs to contribute to the well-being of native Spanish-speakers through education, cultural activities, and direct access to services. 

CHIP of Roanoke pairs pregnant moms, low-income children, birth to first-grade entry, and their guardians with a Community Health Nurse and Family Case Manager to help them access needed medical services, to assist with the management of chronic conditions and to provide developmental education, kindergarten preparation and regular child assessment and monitoring.

We are an educational and cultural institution committed to promoting, showcasing, and celebrating the art and history of African Americans for Roanoke Valley citizens and visitors.

House of Bread (Roanoke Valley)
House of Bread is a program for formerly incarcerated women. Over the course of an eight-week session women are exposed to new skills through hands on training coupled with emotional and spiritual support while baking and selling bread alongside volunteers from the Roanoke community.

Humble Hustle (Roanoke Valley)
The Humble Hustle Company empowers black youth and connects diverse communities by creating innovative, inclusive spaces that inspire hope and promote giving.

IRON Lives (Lynchburg)
Positive youth development programming designed to build, support, and send youth into life in Central Virginia.

Latinas Network (Roanoke Valley)
At Latinas Network, we're driven by a powerful mission that revolves around three core pillars: Business Engagement, Professional Development, and Representation. These pillars are the foundation upon which we build a vibrant and inclusive community that empowers Latinas to thrive, connect, and lead in every sphere.

We are a community-based literacy program that provides free one-to-one or small group tutoring in reading, writing, basic math, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), digital literacy and preparation for exams such as the GED and U.S. Citizenship tests.

Mountain View Humane (New River Valley)
Mountain View Humane is a community resource that provides high-quality, affordable spay/neuter and pet wellness services in southwestern Virginia.

As Lynchburg's largest pantry, Park View Community Mission isn't here to simply have well-fed poor people, but to help build bridges out of poverty into productive and purposeful lives. By offering resources and teaching skills for living, we will lower the poverty rate by raising the employability rate.

Roanoke Diversity Center (Roanoke Valley)
The Roanoke Diversity Center's mission is to support, educate, empower, and advocate for LGBT individuals and groups in the Roanoke region, and to encourage collaborative efforts with the greater community to improve the quality of life for all. 

Roanoke Veterans Outreach (Roanoke Valley)
Founded by a retired disabled veteran, RVO's core tenants include veteran advocacy, and outreach support, because at the end of the day, we truly owe our veterans a debt that can never be repaid.

YWCA Central Virginia is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, and dignity for all.

Vector Space (Lynchburg)
Vector Space is a nonprofit makerspace and community workshop with the mission to build an open and collaborative community that fosters innovation, creativity, and the pursuit of science based knowledge. 

We Care VA (Roanoke Valley)
We Care VA, LLC was founded in 2016 to provide mental health skills training that enables people to live more independent, healthier lives.
